1day

This Saturday is not only the first day that we can stop talking about the Royal Wedding, but it is also 1 Day, the day CBC has chosen to create a 24 hour portrait of Canada on video!  Send in your Saturday and you could be part of a two-hour documentary on CBC Television and win a VIP trip to the premiere and an iPad 2 – pretty sweet.
Check out our earlier post for more information, or the 1 Day site before May 24th!  And get out there and shoot …

Gaming

Now that the weather seems like it’s finally going to stay above the freezing mark, I thought I’d get started on some spring-cleaning and sift through the files recently transferred off of my old computer to figure which of this stuff I really need. Working my way through the mound of notes that was my old Requiem LARP, ‘Flesh & Blood,’ I’ve been rediscovering a lot of the work I’d done trying to make that a successful game, and thought that I should share some of that gained insight.
While there …

MS_Seabourn_Legend

My parents would be the first to tell you I was pretty much born with champagne tastes on a beer budget (and that beer would be Wildcat).  Gary would be the second; put me in a shoe store and I will unerringly pick out the most expensive pair in the place as my favorite.  It’s not something I try to do.  Like most people, I like nice things.  Nice things with a hefty pricetag.
So I’m kind of obsessed with Seabourn.  Seabourn is so nice, they don’t have cruise ships, they …

Can I tell you how much I hate PDF menus?  Because I really hate them.
Restaurant owners:  Please give me one good reason that you cannot convert your precious menu format into HTML?  It is a text list of food and usually, prices.  Sometimes there are pictures.  All of these things are rendered perfectly well in HTML.  Why do you insist on a PDF?
I can only think of 4 reasons:
- You are in love with your genius menu formatting or in love with the person who designed the genius menu, and …

Nic swimming off Nassau in 2010

During our cruise we’d originally set out with a bit of a food theme, treating ourselves to a sitting at the chef’s table and a cooking lesson when we were in port at Cancun. Instead hurricane Paula rolled through, and we ended up getting diverted to Nassau. Ironically we’d opted for the original set of destinations, not seeing Nassau having much more to offer than the spectacle that’s Atlantis.

Unfortunately shore excursions are typically pricey, and Atlantis maybe even more so. If you were staying for an extended stay, then maybe …

First in an ongoing series of posts that explain – as the title says – what’s in the header, I talk about a shot from one of the best days I have ever had on the road, at the Grand Palace in Bangkok.  Fitting, since it is Songkran, New Year, in Thailand! If you’re over there, enjoy the celebrations!

The picture above is from my trip in 2000 – 2001 to Japan, Thailand and Hong Kong.  I was gone for a little over a month, the longest I’d ever been away …

1day

On any ordinary day in Canada, extraordinary things happen. Canadians have remarkable stories to tell. On April 30, 2011, the CBC wants to hear yours. Video your day and you could be part of a 24 hour portrait of Canada and win a VIP trip to the premiere and an iPad 2!
We know Canadians who travel love to show where they’ve been – so who better to show off the country they call home?
The CBC is celebrating its 75th anniversary with “1 Day, a special CBC/Radio Canada documentary …

Slots

As you’ve already heard we both like to gamble. For Nic, it’s the tables; specifically roulette. And she’s good at it. We have certainly lost a lot of money, but Nic’s gotten good at riding out her winnings. And sometimes even walking away while she’s up.
Interestingly for me it’s slots. Don’t get me wrong. I really like Texas Hold’em, but only do the occasional home game. When I’m at the casinos I’ll usually kick around and watch Nic while she manages her fortune, but inevitably I’ll gravitate over to the …

Toronto by Night from the top of the CN Tower

Gary’s family from Wales – his cousin Anna Marie and his grandfather – came to Canada for a few weeks, so we’ve been busily showing them around.  One Friday evening, we took Anna out to go up the CN Tower, a Toronto fixture.
We went over to the Lone Star Texas Grill for dinner first, as it was close to CBC and Anna hadn’t had Tex-Mex before – no time like the present.  Gary and Anna had the Chili Jalepeno Fire Fajitas – mesquite grilled chicken with mole sauce – for …

Mayan pennisula

Now that the blog is back up and running – who would have thought an upgrade could be so buggy ;) – I thought I’d drop a quick post, though we do promise to have some cruise posts for the upcoming week.
While reading through a backlog of blogs, Nic and I have been flipping around TV watching whatever catches our interest. CBC was airing a documentary on the 2012 Apocalypse, a subject I’ve been considering using for a LARP, and so clearly something I have …
