For the first time in the Celebrity Cruise Lines history a woman will be taking the helm of one of their ships. Captain Kate McCue is an American – which also makes her the first American woman in the entire Cruise Line industry to be in the chair – who has taken her maiden voyage this September in command of Celebrity’s Summit, leading a crew of almost nine hundred and fifty in a fourteen day cruise who played host to twenty-one hundred passengers along North America’s eastern coast. In a profession still largely dominated by men, McCue’s own boss, who incidentally is the first female chief executive at the Celebrity Cruise Lines, hopes this example will encourage girls and women to consider the industry as a career; and one where they won’t be limited by the type of position they’re able to pursue. Below is a short interview (approx. 3 minutes) with Captain McCue.
