A little over three years ago Nicole had the opportunity while she was back at York University to interview the photographer behind the Cosmopolis Toronto project – Colin Boyd Shafer – while she was working on the News Now at the CHRY 105.5 FM university radio station as their social media coordinator. Cosmopolis Toronto is now being featured across the city at participating Toronto Libraries until January 8, 2017. Created to showcase Toronto to the world just how cosmopolitan the city is with residents who hail from all corners of the globe. The portraits he takes of his subjects are in the place that makes them feel most “at home” in the GTA along with one featuring them holding an object that connects them to their place of birth. The two photographs are paired with a short story and are mapped on his website. Nicole speaks to Colin about the project, what it says about the city and its people, global migration patterns, and both our families’ own journeys to Toronto.
